Security-of-Employment-Track Lecturer Position

The Department of Physics together with the College of Creative Studies (CCS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara is seeking candidates for a Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment, with the appointment to start in Fall 2009. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in physics and a deep interest in teaching. The Department, together with CCS, runs an intensive program for gifted majors, and the candidate will be expected to teach in that program, as well as teach a range of regular physics courses in the Department. The CCS program effort also requires actively recruiting students as well as advising them. Further information may be found on the websites for the Physics Department and for CCS. Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

The Physics Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara, has reopened a search for a tenure track professor position in theoretical condensed matter physics, at an open level, with an appointment to start in Fall of 2009. The Department has a strong program in diverse areas of condensed matter theory and experiment, which gains significant synergy through interactions with the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP), California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI), Microsoft’s Station Q research center, and numerous other cross-disciplinary activities on the campus. We will consider applications across all sub-fields of condensed matter theory, including hard and soft matter and quantum information.

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. and a strong research background in condensed matter theory, and would teach a range of courses in the physics department. The department is committed to identifying excellent candidates who can contribute to the diversity of the academic community through research, teaching and service. The department has extensive cross disciplinary work with colleagues in the College of Engineering, Biological Sciences, and Chemistry, which are enhanced by the presence of the California NanoSystems Institute, the Materials Research Laboratory, the Center for Polymers and Organic Solids, a new state-of-the-art microfabrication cleanroom facility, and the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics. Candidates are expected to have a PhD in physics or a closely related field, and will teach a range of courses in the Physics Department. The Physics Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara is seeking candidates for a position in experimental biological or soft condensed matter physics, with an appointment to start in Fall of 2009. This position is open to applicants at all levels, ranging from tenure-track assistant professor to full professor. Current departmental efforts in biological and biomimetic materials, systems biology, studies of single molecules, and nonlinear systems are complemented by related programs in the College of Engineering.
