Ph.D. graduate, Michael Johnson, offered two prestigious NASA Fellowships

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Johnson, a graduate of UCSB's Ph.D. Program in Physics, who has won offers for two prestigious NASA fellowships: the Einstein and the Hubble Fellowship.  Dr. Johnson is a postdoc at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, supported by an Event Horizon Telescope Fellowship.  With a worldwide team, he is working to image the event horizon of the black hole at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy.  While at UCSB Dr. Johnson worked with Carl Gwinn and completed his Ph.D. in 2013.
