Physics Graduate Student Shop
The UCSB Physics Graduate Student Shop is a well-equipped shop offering four manual mills, one CNC mill, three manual lathes, drill presses and band saws for basic machining. There are also punches, brakes, manual shears and belt sanders for light fabrication and a soldering area for soft and hard soldering.
Student Machine Shop Access
The Student Machine Shop Access Request Form must be completed by students, interns, volunteers, and other staff who wish to use the student shop. This form must be completed each time your student or staff status changes. (If you have questions about the forms, you can see examples of the Waiver and Volunteer forms.) After you have completed the form, please contact Guy Patterson, Student Shop Manager, to make an appointment for viewing the mandatory safety video and taking the safety quiz. Expect this process to take about one hour.
Student shop hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00.
The safety video and quiz will only be offered twice a week:
Tuesday mornings at 10:30 and Thursday afternoons at 3:30.
You must have both the Waiver and Volunteer form completed before viewing the video.
Shop Safety Information
It is very important to the Physics Department that the student shop be used in a safe manner. All persons who want to use the student shop are required to read and follow the Physics Student Shop Safety Handbook.
