Conner Family Undergraduate Travel Grants
Travel Grants provide funds to undergraduate students who have been invited or selected to present a paper or a poster at a major in-person professional conference or meeting held in the United States, Canada or Mexico. Applicants must be Physics majors in their Junior or Senior year. Students are eligible to receive up to two Travel Grants during their undergraduate career at UCSB. These awards are made possible through a generous donation by the Conner family.
Deadline is at least 21 days in advance of travel.
The funding for the 2024 Undergraduate Student Travel Grant is split into two equal pools:
- Pool One: Conference travel between January 1, 2024 and June 30, 2024
- Pool Two: Conference travel between July 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024
Applications will be accepted for each pool until the funds are expended.
Eligibility:

Applicants must be currently registered undergraduate physics majors in their Junior or Senior year.

Applicants must be invited or selected to present a paper or a poster at a major in-person professional conference or meeting. (Proof of invitation or selection of the applicant for presentation or performance must be provided with the application materials). Faculty letters should include information about the professional importance of the conference.

Application with all supporting material must be received by the Travel Award Committee at least 21 days prior to travel.

A student may receive up to two in-person Travel Grants during the course of their studies at UCSB.
Terms of the Award

Any travel other than a direct route from Santa Barbara or Los Angeles to the conference location must be approved by the Award Committee prior to departure.

Expense Reports for approved travel must be submitted in Concur within 10 days of completion of trip. Travel award funds will not be held in reserve for late Expense Reports.
- Maximum funding is as follows:
- $450 California
- $900 All other U.S. locations, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico

Application must include the following:
1. A completed 2024 Travel Grant application;
2. Title and abstract of the talk/poster to be presented;
3. A copy of the invitation/acceptance for the presentation or performance;
4. A letter of support from the student’s faculty mentor;
5. An unofficial transcript.
